Lynd Public School has implemented the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) initiative. The purpose of the PBIS initiative is to establish and maintain effective school environments that maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence of all learners. This competence is gained as a result of school personnel and families working together to provide a continuum of support for all learners. Several key elements of PBIS are:
· A common purpose and a positive approach to discipline
· A clear set of positive expectations and behaviors
· Procedures for teaching and encouraging expected behaviors
· Procedures for discouraging inappropriate behaviors
· Data used to guide decision making and planning
· Emphasis on prevention of inappropriate behaviors
We have four school-wide expectations that has been posted throughout the building and discussed frequently with students. These expectations are PRIDE, ATTITUDE, WISE-CHOICES and SELF-CONTROL. It is our goal to be very specific with students as to the behaviors that will allow them to show PRIDE, ATTITUDE, WISE-CHOICES and SELF-CONTROL within each area of the school. This creates a framework for behavioral success, as well as an accountability structure for students and staff.
As part of the PBIS program, we have established several clear rules for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school. We will explicitly teach those expectations to the students and reward them frequently with positive notes and Panther Paws rewards for their great behavior. In time, as this will be a process, the expectations for all student behavior will be clear throughout our building.
**Listed below are the expectations for behavior in areas of our building. Also listed below are the PAWS Majors and Minors Flow Chart.**
